Brazil’s House Starts Second Suit to Remove Congressman Who Blew the Whistle on the PT

The Ethics Council of Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies notified deputy Roberto Jefferson (PTB – Rio de Janeiro), yesterday, August 23, about a new petition submitted by the Liberal Party (PL), requesting that another process be opened to revoke his parliamentary mandate.

The president of the Council, Ricardo Izar (PTB – São Paulo), named deputy Mendes Thame (PSDB – São Paulo) to be reporter of the new process against Jefferson. According to Izar, if the first suit against Jefferson is successful, the second will be shelved. The first suit was also brought by the PL.

Today, the reporter for the first suit, Jairo Carneiro (PFL – Bahia), will present his report, which should go to a vote tomorrow, August 25, if nobody asks for more time to study the matter. Izar informed that, if a delay is requested, the vote should be scheduled for next Tuesday, August 30.
