Brazil’s Petrobras Promises New Production Record

The president of Brazil’s Petrobras, José Eduardo Dutra, guaranteed, March 16, that in April the company will break the national record for daily petroleum production.

The current record of 1,640,509 barrels was set on March 14, 2003. According to Dutra, establishing a new record will depend upon the production of platforms P-43 and P-48.

P-43, which has been in operation since last December, has an average daily output of 20 thousand barrels and is currently producing around 70 thousand barrels/day.

P-48 began functioning this year and is currently producing 20 thousand barrels/day. By midyear, the two platforms, which are located in the Campos Basin, are, together, expected to produce 300 thousand barrels/day.

Dutra said that petroleum production in February remained stable in relation to January. Average daily petroleum production in domestic fields amounted to 1,523,654 barrels in February, 0.6% (10 thousand barrels) less than the 1,532,647 figure registered in January.
