Brazil Sends Solidarity Message for Year-Old Tsunami

On Monday, December 26, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva transmitted a message of solidarity to the people of Sri Lanka over the tragedy caused by the tidal wave (tsunami) that struck a year ago.

The message was delivered to the Sri Lanka Embassy in Brasília. In it, President Lula reiterated the sentiments of dismay and friendship the event aroused among Brazilians.

Lula also observed that the wave of destruction brought forth a more powerful wave: "that of solidarity."

"Through assistance on an unprecedented scale, the international community has been backing the efforts of the Sri Lanka officials to overcome this profound trauma and help in the recuperation of the communities that were affected," the Brazilian President affirmed.
