Brazil Take Japanese Road on Digital TV

Brazil’s Minister of Communications, Hélio Costa, informed that a technical agreement was signed on Friday, June 23, with Japan on the digital TV model to be adopted by Brazil.

According to the Ministry of Communications press office, the agreement provides for discoveries made by Brazilian scientists to be incorporated into the Japanese model.

As a result, the model is already being referred to as Nippo-Brazilian, and, the press office added, the government plans to ensure that open TV will be available in digital format to the entire Brazilian population, in order to expand the industry and stimulate national technology.

The ministry also informs that the preference for the Japanese system is due to the fact that it allows transmission to mobile devices, which is not the case with the European model, which only permits high definition transmission to television sets.
