Brazilian Big Gun Olacyr de Moraes Starts His Own Phone Company

Olacyr de Moraes Brazilian billionaire and tycoon Olacyr Francisco de Moraes, famous for his entrepreneurship and with more than a 50 year history in the Brazilian business market, has just started his newest company, LegalPhone, which promises to serve the market offering telecommunications products and services in Brazil and abroad.

The company was the brainchild of Executive Athos Bulgari, who has been in the sector for 25 years and left Brazil's firm Telefônica last year.

"We cannot remain outside this magnificent sector," said Moraes. "To export Brazilian technology to the world is something we will do with great pride," he added.

"Olacyr had this dream, which was to invest in telecommunications, and decided to go ahead with this initiative at an excellent moment," said Bulgari, CEO of LegalPhone.

LegalPhone proposes to offer telecommunication services "in an innovative manner, like no other on the market," according to Bulgari. The first of these will be the Intelligent Keyboard – KSP KeyboardSmartPhone. It is a multimedia keyboard with integrated resources that has a telephone line coupled via an IP network.

In addition to the intelligent keyboard that offers a series of integrated services, LegalPhone developed and patented innovative and unique technology with the software that brings the communications to the equipment. "We believe this will be the product's major difference," explained Athos Bulgari.

The platform was developed internally with support from ComunIP, and the audio system is from the North American company GIPS-Global IPSolutions. "As opposed to open solutions on the Internet, each call passes through a virtual private network (VPN), and not via the public Web, which ensures the absence of noise and interruption with a very pure and high quality connection," he added.

The equipment already has its own instant message exchange system, software for sending text messages, as well as 2GB of flash memory for personal files and diaries. With two USB ports, it can be connected to any PC with a broadband Internet connection in order for users to commence talking.

LegalPhone has applied to Brazil's National Telecommunications Agency (Agência Nacional de Telecomunicações – Anatel) to purchase licenses to act as an operator, but independently intends to launch the services in partnership with large telephony companies, which will supply the line numbering.

At the outset, LegalPhone will also have agreements with operators in Argentina, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Mexico, the United States, England and China in order to sell the system in other countries.

The company's initial focus is on the corporate and governmental markets, offering the service to end-users shortly after.

"Of the 8.4 million broadband users in Brazil, only three percent use Voice over Internet Protocol. Currently, the market is lacking a quality solution with very competitive costs. There is great potential to be explored," says Bulgari.
