Brazil Embraer’s Net Income Goes Up, While Net Sales Go Down

Embraer, Brazilian aircraft manufacturer, had a net income of US$ 83 million in the second quarter of the year, an increase in 3.5% in comparison to the US$ 80.2 million registered in the same period last year.

The company’s net sales, however, dropped by 12% in the same comparison, from US$ 924.3 million to US$ 812.4 million.

According to the company, the reduction in revenues happened due to a smaller number of deliveries made in the second semester of the year, in comparison to the same period in 2004. In a statement Embraer highlighted, however, that 60% of deliveries in 2005 are programmed to happen during the second semester.

The increase in its profit, according to the company, indicates an improvement in the mix of products offered. The company started delivering this year the first units of the new family of commercial jets Embraer 170/190, larger airplanes and more expensive than the ones in the ERJ 145 family, traded since the 1990s.
