Organic Global Community Gathers in Brazil for BioFach Latin America

Biofach Latin America in Brazil Organic products from 12 countries will be presented by 300 exhibitors during the BioFach Latin America 2007, which begins today, October 16 and ends Thursday, October 18, in São Paulo, in the southeast of Brazil. This will be the fifth edition of the fair in Brazil and 8,000 visitors are expected on the three days of the event.

In the sidelines of the fair, there will be the third edition of the ExpoSustentat, the International Fair of Sustainable Goods, focussed on forestry products, sustainable fishing, fair trade and carbon credit markets.

It is estimated that every year the global organic product market has a turnover of US$ 40 billion and grows 30%. BioFach is the largest organic product fair in the world and takes place each year, in Germany, where it began, and also in the United States, Japan, Brazil and China.

"The fact that Brazil is going to host the only BioFach event in Latin America, which takes place in the sidelines of the ExpoSustentat, confers to these two trade fairs privileged international visibility," stated Maria Beatriz Martins Costa, director at Planeta Orgânico (Organic Planet), which is the co-organizer of the fair, together with Nuremberg Global Fairs.

According to her, BioFach Latin America and ExpoSustentat include two fairs with specific pavilions from other countries and several events in the sidelines.

"Among them are business roundtables sponsored by the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex) and the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (Sebrae) and those that target the retail market for the increase of domestic consumption of organic products," she pointed out.

And the list of new organic products rises from year to year: cosmetics, chocolate, coffee, cookies, cashew nuts, chicken, hamburgers and several other processed foods, as well as raw products are among the varieties of certified organic products united in the same space in Latin America.

OrganicsBrazil

Among the highlights of the fair is the OrganicsBrazil Project, established in 2005 to promote Brazilian organic products on the foreign market, using a unique brand that represents the country's talent to produce quality organics.

Turned to farmers, producers and Brazilian organic product processors who have international certification, the project will take 42 companies to the fair.

During the exhibition, OrganicsBrazil is going to participate in the Buyer and Image Project, in partnership with the Apex and Planeta Orgânico. The project will include business roundtables between Brazilian producers and buyers on the foreign market. This year, six foreign companies from the United States and Europe should participate in the negotiations.

In partnership with the Apex and the Institute for Promotion of Development (IPD), the OrganicsBrazil Project is participating in the first international fair in the sector and, in 2007, forecasts revenues of around US$ 36 million.

One of the main attractions of ExpoSustentat will be Amazon Room, with handmade and exotic products from the region. Brazilian and foreign speakers will be at the fair to discuss payment for environmental services, cosmetics, biodiversity, fair trade and sustainable construction, among others.

In 2007, ExpoSustentat will focus on regional markets and will be the stage for the release of the Andes-Amazon Room. Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Suriname, Guyana and Venezuela will bring to ExpoSustentat their experiences in trading products connected to sustainable exploration.
