Emirates Sweeten the Pot for Brazilians Willing to Work in Dubai

Dubai, a big construction site The headhunter company Seniors Executive Search, based in the capital of the southeastern Brazilian state of São Paulo, Brazil, will select Brazilian professionals in the civil construction sector to work in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates.

The company has a partnership with a headhunter from South Africa who works for two large construction companies in the country that operate in Dubai. The Seniors Executive Search is seeking managerial-level professionals in the construction sector, such as construction managers, project managers, and foremen.

According to the partner at the Brazilian consultancy company, Maria Lucia Hoff, Seniors will hold a pre-screening of the professionals, who will be interviewed by the South African headhunter in late July, when he will come to Brazil.

The professionals must speak English or Arabic. "If the person speaks Arabic, that is perfect," says headhunter Maria Lucia. According to her, one of the difficulties faced by the consultancy company is precisely finding people in the field with the necessary experience – since the Brazilian civil construction market had a low level of demand for a few years – and who speak good English.

According to Maria Lucia, the South African headhunter is seeking professionals in Brazil and in other developing countries as well. She claims that the wages offered in Dubai are better than in Brazil, and that there are benefits such as housing, school for children, automobile, and air ticket for returning to Brazil once a year.

The contracts last from two to three years. "It is a great alternative for Brazilian professionals. The Arabs love the Brazilians. There is a very strong relation between Brazil and the Arab world," says the owner of Seniors.

The construction companies for which the consultancy firm is going to select professionals operate with large construction works, such as buildings and shopping malls. This will be the first time that Senior will send Brazilian professionals to Dubai, according to Maria Lucia.

The São Paulo-based company, however, has already been working with international recruitment, in partnership with the South African headhunter, since the beginning of its operations, in 1999. One of the main lines of work for Seniors, according to Maria Lucia, is in the chemical and pharmaceutical field. In order to participate in the selection process for Dubai, one must send a resume by e-mail (see below).

The Seniors company is owned by Maria Lucia Hoff and by businessman Luiz Alberto Ribas. Maria Lucia is a pedagogue with a postgraduate degree in Human Resource Management, and has worked for the Brazilian Ministry of Education, the Brazilian Social Service for Industry (Sesi), the PepsiCo group, and the CRH Executivos company. Ribas has a background in sales and marketing in companies such as Johnson & Johnson, L'Oréal, Fleischmann & Royal, Termolar, and Sola Optical.
