Brazilian Coffee and Paper Filter Maker Melitta to Double Production

Brazil’s Coffee and paper filter for coffee manufacturer Melitta do Brasil Indústria e Comércio is going to invest US$ 1,862 million in boosting its production capacity at the unit inaugurated by the company this year, in the city of Bom Jesus in southernmost Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul.

According to the company’s president in Brazil, Bernardo Wolfson, the plant, which currently has a one-shift work schedule, will begin operating in two shifts in order to double its coffee-processing volume.

Currently working in Bom Jesus are 51 employees, out of a total of 500 people working for Melitta, including the company’s other unit in Rio Grande do Sul, in the city of Guaíba, and the company headquarters in the city of Avaré, in the southeastern Brazilian state of São Paulo.

With the expansion of the Bom Jesus unit, the company intends to reach 80 employees in years to come. Melitta produces coffee and paper filters for coffee. The company leads the Brazilian market for vacuum-sealed coffee, and is the country’s second largest producer of roasted and milled coffee.

Melitta is also the leading brand in paper filters for coffee, with over 50% of market participation. The company operates in various countries.

The Brazilian plants are the ones with the highest sales volume after Germany, where Melitta was established in 1908. The information was provided by the government of the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
