Led by Cereals Brazil Agribusiness Reaches Record Export

Brazilian agribusiness exports generated US$ 4.287 billion in September, an increase of 12.2% when compared to the same month last year.

The figures were disclosed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply. Sector imports, in turn, totaled US$ 601 million, 46.4% more than in September 2005, which resulted in a surplus of US$ 3.685 billion.

According to the ministry, exports and the trade balance result were record for months of September. To the minister of Agriculture, Luí­s Carlos Guedes Pinto, agribusiness foreign sales may reach the end of the year at US$ 48 billion.

Between January and September, they have already reached US$ 36.061 billion, an increase of 11% in comparison to the same period last year.

According to the ministry, the exports that presented the greatest growth were cereals, flours and concoctions (269.9%), tobacco (62.3%), sugar and alcohol (53.4%), coffee, tea, mate tea and spices (48.9%), and pulp and paper (31.9%).

Total sales of the sugar and alcohol sector were influenced by the increase in prices when compared to September 2005, 50% in the case of sugar and 63.5% in the case of alcohol.
