Brazil Sends Donation to Lebanon and Palestine to Help in Reconstruction

Affonso Celso de Ouro-Preto, Brazil’s extraordinary ambassador to the Middle East, announced today, September 1st, in Stockholm, Sweden, a contribution of US$ 500,000 by the Brazilian government to humanitarian projects developed by the United Nations (UN) in the Palestinian Occupied Territories.

He is coordinating the Brazilian delegation at the International Conference about the Humanitarian Situation in the Palestinian Occupied Territories.

Organized in partnership with the governments of Spain and Norway, the conference will have as its main theme the serious humanitarian situation in the Palestinian Occupied Territories, especially in the Gaza strip.

The Brazilian government is also donating US$ 500,000 to Lebanon to help in the reconstruction project of the country, which was bombarded for five weeks by Israeli forces.

According to Ouro-Preto, the Brazilian contribution will be sent to Lebanon through the UNDP (United Nations Development Program).

While Lebanon has currently 3.8 million inhabitants, there are 7 million Lebanese and Lebanese descendants in Brazil. Most of them live in São Paulo, but you can also find them all over the country.
