Two Parties and Baby do Brasil to Celebrate Brazil Day in Los Angeles

Heartened by the success of the first Brazilian Day in L.A. 2005 the Consulate General of Brazil in Los Angeles decided to do it all again this year, bringing Angelenos and Brazilians together.

The party will happen at the La Brea Tar Pits in Hancock Park, Los Angeles, on September 30, from 12 noon to 6 pm.  This one-day extravaganza will offer continuous music, dance, and performances representing a broad repertoire of traditional and contemporary Brazilian expressions as well as traditional folkloric performers.

The culture experience of Brazil to be offered will include capoeira (a Brazilian dance mixed with martial art) demonstrations, a kids corner, an art exhibit, dance, and music, lots of music!

Among the attractions: Kátia Moraes & Pure Samba – Leo Costa (drums), Antonio Sant’Anna (bass), Mitchell Long (guitar) – will perform classic sambas, bossa nova, frevo, and other rhythms of Brazilian Popular Music.

Brasilidade, formed by Carlinhos Pandeiro de Ouro (pandeiro – tambourine), Salvador (percussion – surdo drum), Erock (vocals, cavaquinho and banjo) and Vinicius (guitar and cavaquinho) promises to shake the auditorium with the best of percussion, evoking the contagious sounds of samba and pagode.

Plus a unique Carnaval tradition, the Maracatu Nação Casa Real Cazadero, formed by Beto Guimarães, a choreographer from Olinda, Pernambuco and Derek Wright, director of Bateria Lucha (an Oakland-based Brazilian percussion ensemble), dancing to an extremely funky and joyous rhythm that has been used for hundreds of years during Carnaval in the northeastern Brazilian State of Pernambuco to mock the colonial royal court, to honor the Orixás, and to celebrate emancipation.

DJ Sergio Mielniczenko will keep the crowd involved in a positive vibe with the best of Brazilian music, from classic bossa nova to the newest beats of world music.  Banda Balaio, formed by Flávio (vocal), Reildo (keyboards), Thiago (guitar) Leandro (drums) and Nelson (bass) will perform Brazilian Rock n’ Roll and Pop music.

Children of all ages will have the opportunity to learn while they play at the “Kids Corner”, featuring soccer and Capoeira workshops, face-painting, folklore story telling, drawing of prizes, pop corn and cotton candy.

Rose Lobo, Carmen Gusmão, Jorge Vismara, Marcia Brito, Milenna Saraiva and Sandra Zebi, six great Brazilian artists currently working and living in Los Angeles will showcase an exhibition of photography, painting and sculptures.

Vendors will feature the best of Brazilian Cuisine, exotic drinks, clothing, accessories, arts & crafts, and more! Participants are allowed and encouraged to picnic, bring cameras, umbrellas, and blankets.  Two roundtrip tickets to Brazil will be given away, a courtesy of AeroMexico Airlines.
