Sugar, Beef and Cachaça Are the Staples of Brazilian Trader Blooming

The trading company Blooming International, from São Paulo, in the southeast of Brazil, plans to triple their exports to the Arab world up to the end of the year.

The company ships every month between one and three containers of products, especially foodstuff like corned beef and sugar, to seven Arab countries: Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Morocco, Iraq and Algeria.

"We believe that up to the end of the year we’ll have tripled this average. In 2007 we plan on obtaining an equally representative increase," says the partner at the trading company, Cristina Gennari.

The greatest markets for Blooming International are in the Arabian Peninsula and in Africa, according to Cristina. As well as the Arab countries, the company also exports to Pakistan, Iran and South Africa.

The trading company ships between three and four containers a month of corned beef and one container of other varied meats. It also makes from one to four shipments of sugar per month, each one with at least 12,500 tons. The company works exclusively with exports.

Sales by Blooming to the Arab market started with meats, which have the halal certificate, meaning the animals are slaughtered according to the Muslim rules.

Cristina didn’t visit the Arab countries to start negotiating with them. The way was through contact with the embassies of the countries in Brazil, where the businesswoman asked for lists of possible importers, and research in specialized sites.

"I telephoned, sent emails, telephoned again and started setting up my portfolio of frequent clients," stated Cristina.

According to Cristina, the products exported are from medium and large enterprises, most of them from the state of São Paulo. "We work with companies that are absolutely trustworthy and have a good infrastructure for exports. By ‘trustworthy’ I mean the company honors its commitments and never alters the quality of the products," she says.

Blooming is a small company, entirely national, and was created in the year of 2001. In the company’s plans is the opening of a branch in Brussels. The company is also starting to export jeans and shoes of high added value.

Currently, as well as sugar and beef, Blooming also sells the typical Brazilian cane spirit "cachaça", textiles and machines for making bags, nappies and pizzas.
