Following Disastrous World Cup Campaign Coach Parreira Gets Fired

Brazil’s CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation), the maximum soccer authority in the country announced today, July 19, that is in search of a new coach for the Brazilian football national team.

Carlos Alberto Parreira, the coach who managed the disastrous participation of the team during the recent World Cup in Germany is without a job.

Although Parreira was fired from his post, he issued a note in which he says that he asked to step down due to "physical and emotional fatigue" and the need to rest after four years commanding the Seleção.

The firing was no surprise since the disappointing match against the French that eliminated Brazil from the world competition. Ricardo Teixeira, the president of CBF, said that the name of the new coach should be announced soon.

Teixeira made a point to stress that Parreira deserves all the respect for his coaching work. He recalled that he was the man behind the victory Brazil had in Los Angeles, in 1994, conquering the World Cup for the fourth time.

Earlier this month, Portugal’s coach, Luiz Felipe Scolari, has refused CBF’s invitation to coach the Brazilian team alleging that his family had asked him not to move away from Portugal.

The short list from which a new coach will be chosen includes Vanderlei Luxemburgo and Paulo Autuori. Luxemburgo coaches the Santos Futebol Clube and Autuori used to coach the São Paulo Futebol Clube and now works in Japan.
