Brazil Exports 31% of World’s Beef. Russia Still Main Importer.

Brazilian beef exports yielded US$ 351.6 million in June, which represented an increase in 15% over the same period last year. There were 221,900 tons shipped, a drop in 2.8% in relation to the same period last year, according to information released yesterday, July 10 by the Brazilian Beef Industry and Exporters Association (Abiec).

The main buyer of in natura bovine meat from Brazil in June was Egypt, which imported US$ 51.77 million, 98.8% more than in the same month last year.

Shipments added up to 39,750 tons, which represented an increase in 82.7%. As well as Egypt, other Arab nations like Algeria and Saudi Arabia were amongst the ten main importers of the Brazilian product, with US$ 18.86 million (15.29% more) and US$ 9.18 million (111.9% more) respectively.

From January to June this year Brazilian beef exports registered record values in terms of revenues. External sales added to US$ 1.716 billion, which meant an increase in 16% in relation to the same period last year. Shipments totaled 1.15 million tons, 0.54% more in the same comparison.

According to the president at Abiec, Marcus Vinicius Pratini de Moraes, Brazil already represents 31% of world beef exports. Of the 7.394 million tons sold per year, 2.3 million are exported by the country.

Of the total of Brazilian beef exports in the first semester, the main market was Russia, with imports worth US$ 212.6 million and 148,800 tons. Next is Egypt, with US$ 175.4 million and 141,000 tons, followed by the Netherlands, with US$ 105.8 million and 28,800 tons.
