Brazil Shows Its Fittest Arabian Horses

The National Arabian Show started today at the HÀpica Paulista, in São Paulo, the largest city in Brazil. The event is Brazil’s main fair dealing with Arabian horses.

The organization forecasts that business generated should total US$ 2.1 million, among them deals for animal exports, semen sales, covering, and the official auction, promoted by breeding farm Haras Rach Stud, which is going to sell 40 animals.

In 2003, the auction generated around US$ 327,000 (in current figures) with sales of 38 animals.

Up to next Sunday, November 14, a total of 300 foreign investors are expected.

Among the guests are sheikh Hamad Bin Ali Al Thani, of Qatar. The sheikh was invited personally by the president of the Brazilian Arabian Horse Breeders Association (ABCCA), Luciano Cury, in September, during the Nations Cup, in Germany.

The ABCCA invested around US$ 230,000 in the organization of the event and expects visitation of over 3,000 people.

According to Cury, the market for the breed is on the upswing and Brazil is in the focus of international investors as the country is in the first positions in the world quality rank.

“We can say that the best samples of thoroughbred Arabian Horses will be competing in Brazil from November 9 to 14,” he said.

The animals disputing the National Arabian Championship participated in 22 classification rounds throughout Brazil.

The activities at the event are ample and contemplate the main competitions in the category, including performance and halter (physical characteristics).

So as to give greater credibility to the competition, an international jury was invited to choose the champions, among the over 500 animals exhibited.

Thanks to the performance of the Brazilian lineage, Arab horses from Brazil have won international awards and have gained in value on the domestic and foreign market. The breed has been bred in the country for 174 years.

The Arabian horse auctions are a great example of the real value of this recognition. An elite animal, descending from famous stallions and mares may cost over US$ 130,000.

Auction

The official auction is organized by the Saliba family, owners of breeding farm Rach Stud.

“The auction is going to bring the elite of national breeders. Between mares, fillies and stallions, 40 animals will be sold,” stated businessman Paulo Saliba, one of the owners of the breeding farm.

One of the highlights of the auction will be the Luana Rach mare, offspring of a national champion in the United States.

Most of the animals to be auctioned come from the Saliba family farm.

However, 17 horses belong to guest breeders, as is the case with stallion Ramiro K, at three years of age, the current national champion and the most successful foal in his generation.

Brazil has around 9,000 Arabian Horse breeders, over 18,000 users and over 49,000 animals in over 3,500 breeding farms. The fair will be opened to the public in general and entry is free of charge.
