Brazil Confident Bolivia Will Give In. Country Has No Other Market for Its Gas

The head of Brazil’s General Secretariat of the Presidency, Luiz Dulci, repeated what Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has said: there are no problems with natural gas supplies.

He also reiterated that there will not be a price increase for consumers and Brazil seeks a peaceful solution to its problems with Bolivia after that country nationalized its gas and oil reserves on May 1st.

"We have based our negotiations on respect for Bolivia’s legitimate rights while vigorously defending Brazil’s legitimate rights. And, above all, avoiding a conflict.

"The Brazilian people do not want an antagonistic relationship with neighboring states or a hostile situation on our borders," declared Dulci.

"We have to reach a reasonable agreement. Brazil needs Bolivia’s gas, and Bolivia does not have another market for its gas," said Dulci. Brazil buys 80% of Bolivian production
