Brazil Heads CIAT, World Body Reuniting Tax Offices from Americas and EU

The Secretary of Brazil’s Federal Revenue and Customs Secretariat, Jorge Rachid, starting Wednesday, April 5, will head the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations (CIAT).

Based in Panama City, the CIAT is an international organization  which is formed by the tax offices of 36 countries from American, Caribbean and European countries. Among the participants are the United States, Canada, Mexico, Spain, France, Holland, Argentina, and Brazil.

According to the Secretariat’s Press Service, approximately 300 representatives of CIAT member countries will gather next week, April 3-6, in the city of Florianópolis, capital of the Brazilian southern state of Santa Catarina, for the 40th CIAT General Assembly.

Organized by the Brazilian Federal Revenue and Customs Secretariat and the State Secretariat of Finance, the event has the objective to discuss efficient measures to improve management of the world’s institutions of tax collection. The event main theme is "Potential collection as a goal of tax administration."

According to the meeting organizers, some international organisms, such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) may send observers, as done in previous assemblies.
