Domestic Air Travel Up 18% in Brazil

The number of passenger arrivals in national flights last year was of 43,130,559, an increase in 17.95% in relation to 2004. With this sum, 2005 surpassed by 6,563,674 the number of domestic arrivals registered in 2004, which was of 36,566,885.

"It is an exceptional growth, consistent and within a progression that allows us to state that the ministry will meet the target established by the National Tourism Plan of reaching 65 million national arrivals in 2007," explained the director of Studies and Research at the Brazilian Tourism Institute (Embratur), José Francisco de Salles Lopes.

The final balance of national arrivals in 2005 shows two relevant data. Month to month, the increase variation of the year in relation to 2004 reached the level of 29.55%, registered in January, and never dropped to below 11.46%, the lowest rate, registered in November.

During the months of July and December, the number of arrivals passed 4 million. In July, traditional holidays month, the total was of 4,253,469, a variation of 22,57% in relation to July 2004, which had 3,470,113. In the month of December, the arrivals reached 4,015,559, an increase in 15.71% in comparison to the same period in 2004.

The year was also record in relation to the arrivals in international flights, with registered value of 6,784,554, an increase in 10.53% in relation to 2004, when 6,138,217 were registered.

The report with the number of national arrivals in 2005 was released this Thursday (19) by the Head of Studies and Research at Embratur.
