19 LatAm Countries Discuss in Brazil How to Get AIDS Drugs to All

Representatives of 19 Latin American countries got together today, in BrasÀ­lia, with the objective of elaborating strategies for the universal access to antiretroviral medication and to prevention services against sexually transmitted diseases and AIDS (STD/AIDS).

Members of 80 entities, among governmental organizations, civil society, community networks, regional organisms and international agencies are expected at the meeting "Toward Universal Access to HIV Prevention and AIDS Treatment in Latin America and the Spanish Caribbean."

The Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) is bringing agents of its Geneva headquarters and coordinators of other countries.

Discussions results will be presented at the United Nations General Assembly, in May 2006, during the meeting about the progresses of the 2001 Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS.

In addition to Brazil, delegates of Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Belize, Cuba, and Dominican Republic are expected to participate on the meeting.
