Brazil’s Surplus Reaches US$ 21 Billion

With exports at US$ 58.466 billion, Brazil’s cumulative trade surplus for the year has now reached US$ 20.990 billion. That has prompted the Central Bank to officially raise its projected year-end surplus estimate from US$ 30 billion to US$ 30.1 billion.

Imports for the year are now at US$ 37.476 billion. The average daily value of exports is running at 39 percent more than during the same period in 2003, and the average daily value of imports is up 31.7 percent.

In the third week of August, Brazil had a trade surplus of US$ 742 million (exports of US$ 2.056 billion and imports of US$ 1.314 billion). For the month, the surplus is US$ 2.461 billion.
