Brazil’s Industry Output Grows Meager 0.1% After 4 Months of Decline

Brazilian industrial output rose 0.1% in October, interrupting four consecutive months of decreases, reports the Monthly Industrial Survey (Pesquisa Industrial Mensal) which is conducted by the government statistical bureau (Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e EstatÀstica) (IBGE).

For the twelve-month period ending in June, industrial output was up 6.7%; however, for the twelve-month period ending in October, it had fallen to an increase of 4.1%.

According to the IBGE that is evidence that there definitely has been an economic slowdown underway and the small increase in October cannot be seen as a turning point – yet.

October output rose in 13 of the 23 economic segments surveyed by the IBGE. There were increases in machinery and electrical equipment, petroleum refining and ethanol production. And decreases in electronics and communications equipment, and textiles.
