Brazil’s Surplus Reaches US$ 40 Billion, 33% More Than Last Year

Brazilian exports totaled US$ 2.543 billion last week, while imports tallied US$ 1.618 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of US$ 925 million. So far this month, the surplus comes to US$ 3.677 billion.

For the year, the overall surplus currently stands at US$ 40.027 billion – 33.05% more than the US$ 30.084 billion registered for the same period in 2004. Exports this year have amounted to US$ 106.044 billion, as against US$ 66.017 billion in imports.

The general trade balance figures, released today by the Ministry of Development, Industry, and Foreign Trade, make it possible to estimate that this month’s surplus will be double the US$ 2.076 billion registered last November.
