Brazil Kicks Off Whole Week of Independence Day Celebrations

Brazilian Independence Day is September 7, and the date is always commemorated as part of a whole week of events known as Patriotic Week (Semana da Pátria) which begins today with a footrace.

The race will be the 68th Race of the Symbolic Fire (Corrida do Fogo Simbólico) and it begins at 9:00 am. It is intended to represent the nation’s patriotic spirit and ideals.

In other Patriotic Week events, also today, the Ministry of Culture will hold a seminar on the history of the republic and there will be a presentation of indigenous music at the Congress.
