Brazil GDP Grows 4.3% in a Year

Brazil’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) – the sum of all goods and services generated by the economy – grew 1.4% in the second quarter of this year, in comparison with the first quarter. Compared with the first quarter of 2004, the growth rate amounted to 3.9%.

During the first half of the year, the GDP grew 3.4%, compared with the first half of 2004. During the 12-month period ending in June, 2005, the GDP was up 4.3% in comparison with the same period last year.

These figures were released in a note by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

In the first three months of this year, the total wealth produced by the country amounted to US$ 186.41 billion (R$ 438.6 billion). This value, expressed as the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), was 2.9% greater than during the same period last year.

When compared with the final quarter of 2004, it represents a seasonally adjusted increase of 0.3%.
