Brazil’s Vice-President Undergoes Angioplasty. All Is Well.

Brazil’s Vice-President of the Republic and Minister of Defense, José Alencar, underwent a heart stint and balloon angioplasty operation, Wednesday, August 17. The news was released in a bulletin by the Syrian-Lebanese Hospital in São Paulo, where Alencar is hospitalized.

According to the bulletin, the procedure was normal, and the Vice-President’s state of health is “stable, and he is doing well.” He will remain in the Syrian-Lebanese Hospital, under observation, for approximately 48 hours.


According to the medical bulletin, Alencar checked into the hospital yesterday morning for a routine checkup, under the supervision of Doctors Roberto Kalil and Raul Cutait. (Kalil is also President Lula’s cardiologist.)


Their examinations detected “a coronary ischemia in the lateral wall of his left ventricule.”
