Egyptian businessmen who visited São Paulo, Brazil, to participate in the Hospitalar – the largest medical equipment and product fair in Latin America – plan to return next year to participate in the event as exhibitors.
“We will return prepared not only for export, but also to establish joint ventures with Brazilian companies,” stated the head of the delegation, Sherif Ezzat.
In all, 16 businessmen who produce medical and hospital products, such as catheters, products for dialysis, ultrasound machines, hospital furniture and orthopaedic products came to the fair.
“I am sure that Brazil is a good market for export of our products,” stated Mohamed Basiony, the export manager of Ameco Medical Industries. The company exports around 90% of its products to 20 countries.
According to Ezzat, first of all the Egyptian producers need to register their products according to the norms of Brazil’s National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa). Only this way will they get certification to sell products in the country.
“It will take at least six months for us to start exporting. We have good prices and competitive quality for the Brazilian market,” stated the head of the delegation.
During the Hospitalar, the businessmen participated in a business roundtable with Brazilian companies, where many contacts were made.
“It was very positive. I believe that, after we manage to get certification and define a distributor, we will soon manage to start exporting,” stated Basiony.
Similarity
According to Shadia Baligh, the general manager of National Medical Industries, which makes disposable products for dialysis, the mentality and the logistics of the Brazilian market are similar to those of the Egyptian market.
“First of all, it is necessary to find a distributor in Brazil, after that everything will get easier,” stated the manager.
According to Ezzat, Egyptian producers are interested in cooperation agreements with Brazilian companies.
“This is the best way for us to grow together and strong,” he said.
According to him, the businessmen have already participated in fairs in Germany and Dubai, but it is the first time that they participate in an event in Brazil.
“It was a new experience. We did not dream that it would be possible to visit Brazil, a country so distant from Egypt,” he stated.
“We have already signed a letter of intention with some Brazilian companies that are interested in importing our products,” stated Ezzat, who believes that at the next edition of Hospitalar, the Egyptian companies may already have distributors in the country.
The Egyptian delegation, which left the country this weekend, also visited the Santa Paula and Syrian-Lebanese hospitals.
During talks between the businessmen and the director of Medical Services of the Syrian-Lebanese hospital, André Alexandre Osmo, the head of the delegation stated that he is very interested in exporting Egyptian products to the hospital.
“We want to use the hospital as a reference for the Egyptian market,” stated Ezzat.
