Brazil and Argentina Look for Mutual Understanding and Cooperation

Brazilian Chancellor, Celso Amorim, and the Minister of Foreign Relations of Argentina, Rafael Bielsa, signed an agreement this Friday, May 20, to be presented to the Presidents of both countries, suggesting the update and acceleration of bilateral relations between Brazil and Argentina.

According to the agreement, protocols that will include strategic issues, such as cooperation in the nuclear, military, infrastructure, energy and border issues areas, as well as productive integration, will be signed November 30th, the Day of Friendship between Brazil and Argentina.

During a press conference, Amorim said that this was a preparation for a great advance in future relations with Argentina.

“This does not mean that current relations are not good. They are. But there are a few problems, as it happens with any intense relationship. The ideas we discussed demonstrate that we will have a true acceleration on our integration, and an improvement on our partnership.”

Bielsa said that what both countries “have for the future is not a promise, but simply a working commitment” and that they “must make a great effort to move from the flight of ideas to land on the facts.”

This was the first official visit of the Argentinean Minister to Brazil, who was awarded the medal Ordem do Cruzeiro do Sul, at the Grã-Cruz level.
