Brazil Joins World on Mourning for Auschwitz

The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Relations released a note, January 27, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp, in Poland.

In the note, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva gives expression to the feelings of the Brazilian population and “deplores the barbarity that victimized millions of Jews” during the Second World War.

According to the statement, the President “joins in the international manifestations of solidarity with the Holocaust victims and reiterates Brazil’s rejection of all forms of intolerance.

“Preserving the memory of those who were sacrificed and of the tragedy that scourged humanity, the Brazilian government will continue to endeavor so that similar acts will never be repeated.”

The note recalls Brazil’s participation in the battle against totalitarianism in Europe during the Second World War and the country’s active role in the creation of the United Nations (UN) in 1945, to foster the ideals of solidarity, justice, and peace.
