Brazil’s Chicken Breeders Get Mad at Bolivian President for Gay Comments

Evo MoralesChicken breeders of Brazil, the world’s largest exporters of the bird rejected and slammed Bolivian president Evo Morales’ statements that linked the consumption of poultry to homosexuality.

“Brazil’s chicken producers and exporters association”, ABEF, rejects President  Evo Morales statements and “his unfounded criticisms to industrially produced chicken meat,” said a brief note released Thursday.

Last Tuesday during the opening of a social alternative summit on climate change in Bolivia, Morales stated that “the chickens we eat are loaded with feminine hormones” and that is why “when men consume these chickens they have deviations of their manly being”.

He also insisted that because chickens and cattle are fed hormones, girls “undergo premature development of their busts.”

President Morales who is known for his controversial statements “reveals a lack of knowledge about this animal protein, which has an indispensable presence in the dining table of all peoples, particularly those less favoured groups of society, whom the president of Bolivia alleges to defend,” added ABEF.

The organization also criticized Morales “bias comments referred to homosexuality” and described such a position as “odd” coming from a “populist leader” who allegedly “says he is dedicated to favor the excluded”.

Chicken breeders recall that Brazil is the world’s leading exporter of chicken meat supplying 153 countries and with certain irony underlined that one of its “major clients” is Venezuela, which happens to be one of Bolivia’s main strategic and politic allies.

Finally, in reference to the alleged specific presence of hormones in chicken meat, ABEF reiterates it is “a myth” adding that in Brazil “the sustained production growth of the chicken industry is based exclusively on corn and soybeans.
