London Mayor and Other Experts in Brazil for Innovative City Conference

Ci-Ci Curitiba From March 10 to 13, Curitiba, the capital of the state of Paraná, will be hosting the 2010 International Innovative City Conference (CI-CI 2010). The event, promoted by the Federation of Industries of the State of Paraná (Fiep), should receive over 70 specialists from several countries to discuss routes for more innovative and sustainable urban construction.

Among the themes to be covered in the meetings are “Reforestation of Cities”, “Reinvention of Governments through Cities”, “Governance of Development of Cities”, among others.

The event should also bring successful experience in urban planning, sustainability, mobility, management and public policies.

Representatives of over 50 cities, from 17 countries have confirmed presence in the CI-CI 2010. Among the international authorities to participate in the meetings are Boris Johnson, the mayor of London, Steve Johnson, the North American author of six best sellers which influenced urban planning of several cities, Pierre Lévy, a philosopher from Canada, Marc Giget, the founding director of the European Institute of Creative Strategies and Innovation of France, and Jeff Olson, a North American architect and urbanist.

In total, 1,500 participants are expected during the four days of the conference. “Innovation is the only route to build a sustainable society. And for Brazilian companies and the country to innovate, it is necessary, before anything, for our cities to be innovative,” said FIEP president Rodrigo da Rocha Loures.

CI-CI 2010 is promoted in partnership between the city halls of Curitiba, Lyon (France), Bangalore (India) and Austin (in the United States), with institutional support of the United Nations.
