Brazilian Door and Plywood Sheet Maker Bets on Exporting

Brazil's Mazza Brazilian Mazza, a manufacturer of doors and wood and plywood sheets, has a goal: to increase the rate of exports from 5% to 10% by the end of this year. The enterprise owns a factory in the municipality of Francisco Beltrão, in the state of Paraná in southern Brazil.

"Despite the world crisis and the exchange rate, which remains unfavorable to exports, we have set our goal based on the good performance in terms of orders already placed in 2009," said the export manager, Luiz Flávio Zagurski. "We have been receiving surveyor orders even from countries to which we have not exported yet," he added.

Presently, Sweden, the Caribbean, Mexico, the United States, Germany, Turkey and Uruguay are the company's leading buyers. Mazza has been on the market for 10 years, employs 120 people and produces a monthly average of 1,200 cubic meters of plywood and 10,000 doors made from wood and plywood.

In the domestic market, the company is present at virtually every state in the country, selling its products through resellers and construction companies.

"Mazza, which has been in the door and plywood manufacturing business since 1999, has constantly perfected its knowledge and technologies, developing its products with quality and keeping up with the evolution of a competitive market," claims Zagurski.

Planted forests in Brazil, especially Pine forests, are the main source of raw material for industrial sectors that use wood for large-scale production.

According to the manager, Mazza works to achieve self-sufficiency in raw materials, by means of investment in "H2O Reflorestadora," located in the states of Paraná and Santa Catarina.
