The information was disclosed in a company press statement. This confirms the discovery of reserves announced on January 21st this year.
Petrobras informs that Jupiter well is located 290 kilometers (180 miles) off the coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro, 37 kilometers (23 miles) east of mega field Tupi, at a water depth of 2,187 meters. The final depth reached, from sea level, was 5,773 meters.
"The drilling of the well, which had been interrupted in January for operational reasons, was deepened and showed the continuation of the natural gas and light oil reserves, with high level of carbon dioxide (CO2). Several samples of oil were collected and are being analyzed by the Petrobras Research center (Cenpes), to analyze the relative percentages of the components," according to a company press statement.
When in production, the CO2 that has been found should not be discarded into the atmosphere, but reinjected into the well, contributing to greater recovery capacity of the oil, adds the statement. The discovery of the reserves has already been communicated to the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuel Agency (ANP).
