Brazil Uses Beijing Games to Promote Country and Win 2016 Olympics

Soccer fans at Rio's Christ the Redeemer A Brazilian space to promote culture, sport, economics and the natural beauties of the country is going to run in the city of Beijing during the Olympic Games. Casa Brasil (the Brazilian House) is going to promote business meetings, seminars and cultural events for Chinese entrepreneurs, foreign journalists and the public in general, from August 4 to 24.

The purpose of the Brazilian House is to attract tourists to Brazil, to strengthen trade exchange with China and to promote the candidacy of Rio to the 2016 Olympics.

According to the minister of Tourism, Luiz Barretto, the 1,000 square-meter (10,764 square feet) space should operate in a hotel in Beijing and should serve to intensify the promotion of the Brazilian image in an event that's  counting on the coverage of around 30,000 journalists from several nations.

"The image of Brazil abroad is already good. We are certainly going to boost this image of a country that has natural beauties, high technology and is also a global exporter, to people who do not know the country. Our target is to show Brazil to those who do not know the country," he said.

The minister of Sports of Brazil, Orlando Silva, pointed out the opportunity of promoting the candidacy of Rio de Janeiro to the 2016 Olympics.

"The investment was made so that we may have a space for promotion of the country, a space for relations with the Olympic world, and to create conditions for Rio to win the right to host the Games in 2016," stated the minister.

The Brazilian House was presented July 24, in Rio de Janeiro. The space has been installed in Olympic Cities since 1996, but this is the first time that it counts on the support of the Federal government, which is going to invest 10.4 million Brazilian reais (US$ 6.6 million) in the project.

The house will be coordinated by the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), with the support of five ministries – Tourism, Sports, Culture, Foreign Relations and Development, Industry and Foreign Trade -, as well as the Social Communications Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic.
