Brazilians Hit Record High in Satisfaction and Expectations

Brazilians have never been so happy with the present and so confident with the future in recent days. The best ever rating of the country's economy by the Brazilians, as well as their expectation regarding the next few months, has increased the Consumer Confidence Index (ICC) up to 5.2%, from November to December this year.

The ICC has risen from 114.3 up to 120.3 points – the highest level ever recorded in the historical series initiated in September 2005.

Published by the Brazilian Economics Institute (Ibre), an arm of the Getúlio Vargas Foundation, the indicator is comprised of five items that are part of the Consumer Expectations Survey – which is carried out based on a sample of more than 2,000 households in the seven main Brazilian capital cities.

The data disclosed by the Getúlio Vargas Foundation show that the Current Situation Index (ISA – the current economic conjuncture), one of the items surveyed, expanded 9.3% compared with November, to reach 121.7 points – another all-time high.

The Expectation Index (IE), which concerns projections for the future, was also the highest since 2005, increasing from 115.9 to 119.7 points.
