Harris Corporation a provider of wireless equipment and services, today announced that Brasil Telecom S.A., one of Brazil’s largest providers of telecommunications services, has signed an agreement to use Harris’ microwave products to expand its wireless network.
The terms of this “umbrella” agreement allow Harris to deploy its products through Brasil Telecom’s newest venture, Brasil Telecom GSM.
Brasil Telecom is deploying Harris’ point-to-point wireless products throughout its network in order to augment the carrier’s backbone for voice and data transmission.
This agreement will lead to installations in Rio Grande do Sul, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul and Goiás.
In addition, Harris’ next- generation microwave radio, TRuepoint, has been approved for the Brazilian market, enabling easy upgrades of its telecommunications networks.

Harris Microwave Communications Division, one of four divisions within Harris Corporation, is the largest supplier of microwave systems in North America and a leading supplier worldwide. The company provides systems and service to customers in more than 150 countries.
Brasil Telecom provides local wireline services and national long distance services as a concessionary in region II, which includes the Brazilian states of Acre, Rondônia, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Tocantins, Goiás, Santa Catarina, Paraná, and Rio Grande do Sul, as well as the Federal District.
The company also has authorization to provide those services in the remaining Brazilian regions (I and III), as well as international long distance services all across the country.
Brasil Telecom also provides mobile telephony as well as network, data transmission and other value-added services in region II.
Brasil Telecom provides data center services through its Cyber Data Centers located in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Brasília, Porto Alegre and Curitiba, offering telecommunications and information technology solutions with high performance and infrastructure availability.
