Brazilian agribusiness exports generated US$ 4.287 billion in September, an increase of 12.2% when compared to the same month last year.
The figures were disclosed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply. Sector imports, in turn, totaled US$ 601 million, 46.4% more than in September 2005, which resulted in a surplus of US$ 3.685 billion.
According to the ministry, exports and the trade balance result were record for months of September. To the minister of Agriculture, Luís Carlos Guedes Pinto, agribusiness foreign sales may reach the end of the year at US$ 48 billion.
Between January and September, they have already reached US$ 36.061 billion, an increase of 11% in comparison to the same period last year.
According to the ministry, the exports that presented the greatest growth were cereals, flours and concoctions (269.9%), tobacco (62.3%), sugar and alcohol (53.4%), coffee, tea, mate tea and spices (48.9%), and pulp and paper (31.9%).
Total sales of the sugar and alcohol sector were influenced by the increase in prices when compared to September 2005, 50% in the case of sugar and 63.5% in the case of alcohol.
