Exports from Brazilian agribusiness reached US$ 33 billion between January and October this year. This is the greatest accumulated value for this period since 1989, and has already topped international sales for the whole of last year.
Meats, soy, alcohol, woods, dairy products and cotton were the main responsible products for the 29.5% increase on exports during the same period in 2003, which were of US$ 25.5 billion.
During the last 12 months, accumulated revenues with exports of cattle and agriculture products rested in US$ 38.1 billion, value 29% greater than in the previous period.
Between January and October, the surplus was of US$ 29.030 billion, result 34.7% greater than for the same months in 2003. Agribusiness was responsible for 41.8% of Brazil’s global exports.
The Ministry of Agriculture forecasts a US$ 33 billion surplus for the sector up until the end of the year.
Soy products exports increased 29% during the first 10 months of the year; meats increased 55.7%: woods, 48.4%; dairy products, 57.2%; coffee, 29%; sugar and alcohol 36.5%; natural rubber 56% and cereals, flours and preparations 129%.
During October, individually, the surplus on the trade balance was of US$ 2.7 billion, 2.1% above October 2003. The performance is a record for the month of October. During the month, soy and cereal exports decreased in relation to the same period in 2003.
On the other hand, meats, coffee, sugar, cotton and tobacco maintained a good performance in foreign sales. The international commercialisation of meat and meat products came to US$ 501.1 million in October, result 30% superior to the same month last year.
Brazil sold 9.6% more to Asia, 17.4% more for the Nafta bloc (except for Mexico), 27.9% more to Africa, 16.8% more to Oriental Europe and 6.5% more to the Mercosur.
Brazilian Beef
Brazil sold bovine beef to 140 countries between January and October this year, against 106 destinations during the same period in 2003.
The information was disclosed yesterday by the Brazilian Beef Industry and Exporters Association (Abiec).
During the first 10 months of 2004, the country exported 1.5 million tons of the product and had revenues of more than US$ 2 billion, which means a 41% increase in the volume shipped, and a 69% increase in the receipts, in comparison to the same period last year.
In October, 181,700 tons of beef were exported at US$ 224.8 million, which represents an increase by 33% in the quantity shipped and 26% increase in revenue, in relation to the same month in 2003.
