Brazil Never Saw Such Promising Economy, Says Lula

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva praised the government’s economic policy. In a press conference, today, with nine radio stations in Brazil, he declared that "our government’s economic policy has been very successful."

According to Lula, the country has never witnessed such a promising economic situation. He affirmed that everything will improve "when interest rates show signs of falling."

Lula recalled that, in the three years since he took office, 3.7 million jobs have been created, and exports and domestic savings have grown.

Lula pointed out that his commitment "is not to the upcoming elections" but to the next generation, and that fiscal adjustment is necessary for the country.

"We are undertaking the fiscal adjustment as a matter of responsibility. A good leader treats his country’s financial matters the way he treats his domestic finances, with great responsibility," he said.

In his view, the project to integrate the São Francisco River with the river basins of the northern part of the Northeast is "necessary." He emphasized that the government’s priority in the project is to revitalize the river.

The president recalled that the project envisions withdrawing only 1% of the river’s water volume to be redirected to 12 million residents of the northeastern semi-arid region.
