The Brazilian Minister of Foreign Relations, Celso Amorim, commented today in New York about the measure recently adopted by Mexico under US pressure, requiring Brazilians to have entry visas, at the same time as the country is attempting to become a full member of the Mercosur.
In an interview with reporters at the headquarters of the United Nations (UN), the Minister said that Mexico’s attitude stands in the way of its participation in the trade bloc.
“I don’t consider this positive, because any restriction on people’s movement, most of all between fellow countries, is bad, since it thwarts business.”
Amorim and President Lula participated in the UN plenary session to evaluate the progress made towards fulfilling the eight goals established five years ago in the Declaration of the Millennium.
