International AIDS Center Opens with US$ 1 Million Grant from Brazil

The world’s first International HIV/AIDS Technical Cooperation Center (Centro Internacional de Cooperação Técnica em HIV e Aids) (CICT) is going to be built in Brazil as part of a partnership between the Brazilian government and the UN AIDS program (UNAids).

The center will train personnel from Brazil and other developing nations in AIDS treatment and prevention, taking into consideration local conditions and culture.

The idea for the CICT has been around since the end of last year. But yesterday, at the end of the 3rd Conference of the International AIDS Society in Rio de Janeiro, the Brazilian Ministry of Health announced a grant of US$ 1 million that will turn the idea into reality.
