Arabs See Summit in Brazil as Political Platform

Nations participating in the Summit of South American-Arab Countries have different interests, says the Ambassador Rubens Barbosa, President of the Superior Council of Foreign Trade of the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (Fiesp).

For him, South American countries prioritize economic issues, while Arab countries focus more on political agreements.

“Latin America comes to the Summit expecting more investments and trade. For the Arab nations, this is an important opportunity to state their political opinion on Middle East issues.”

The Ambassador believes that event results can only be effectively measured in the medium and long range.

“The Entrepreneurial Event, happening simultaneously to the Summit, will provide for useful contacts between Middle East and South America companies, but we shouldn’t expect immediate drastic changes in commercial relations, nor in investment issues.”

According to Barbosa, entrepreneurs need to know each other better before effectively doing business.
