Brazil’s Engevix Gets Nod from Bentley

Engevix Engenharia, a Brazilian company specializing in technical consulting services, has been nominated for a 2005 BE Award for its Barra Grande hydropower plant project in Brazil.

The BE Awards of Excellence, which will be presented at the upcoming BE Conference – www.be.org, honor the work of Bentley users improving the world’s infrastructure.

Engevix was responsible for all engineering and design services for the 690-megawatt Barra Grande project, now under construction along the Pelotas River.

Brazilian federal authorities consider the project, which includes a 185-meter-high concrete-faced rockfill dam – one of the highest in the world – to be crucial to guaranteeing the supply of electrical energy to the country, as well as to supporting the country’s economic growth.

The project demanded technology capable of providing a productive, reliable environment, allowing integration among the various disciplines.

Thousands of drawings had to be created and revised regularly throughout an extensive schedule that involved quick decisions.

The technology also needed the agility to redefine the stages of the project while also offering the ability to share contract and project information with project partners and customers.

Bentley products, including MicroStation, MicroStation TriForma, MicroStation PowerDraft, and Bentley Redline, provided solutions for each of the disciplines.

Said José Antunes Sobrinho, vice president Energy and Water Resources, “From the beginning, we were sure that designing in 3D was essential for us to reach our quality goals, raise our productivity, as well as to make Engevix even more competitive.

“We were also aware that this was a challenging step, but we decided to take it, as we were confident it was possible. Undoubtedly, Bentley has given us the necessary technology to achieve our aim, as its resources were fundamental for Engevix to achieve currently great success in project design.”

About 5,000 documents were created during the project, including drawings, bills of material, iron lists, reports, and so on. And if revisions of each document by the team of 66 people involved are included, the number increases to 7,000.

Engevix Engenharia is a Brazilian company specializing in technical consulting services, with offices in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Florianópolis, and Curitiba.

Founded in March 1965 under the name Engevix S.A Estudos e Projetos de Engenharia, the company has 40 years of experience in engineering, consulting, and project implementation.

Its portfolio includes a number of hydropower plant design projects, such as the Itaipu, Tucuruí, Itá and Salto Caxias hydropower plants.

The BE Conference – www.be.org – is an annual gathering of Bentley users and their managers who want to sharpen their skills and expand their knowledge at over 300 training, best practice, new technology, and keynote sessions. BE Conference 2005 is being held May 8-12 in Baltimore, Md.
