Brazilian poultry exports added up to US$ 259.8 million in the month of April, which represented an increase in 54.38% in relation to the same month in 2004.
Last month 232,900 tons of the product were shipped, 63% more than in the same period last year, according to information released Friday, May 6, by the Brazilian Poultry Exporters Association (Abef).
The main poultry importers during these first four months were the European Union, Middle East, Asia, Russia and Africa. From January to April, 945.5 million were exported, which corresponded to a volume of 868,300 tons.
According to information from ABEF, the numbers are within the forecasts for 2005.
However, the sector is worried with the constant devaluation of the American dollar in relation to the Brazilian real, which makes the Brazilian companies’ competitiveness increase in the international market.
