Brazil Sets Record in Vehicle Production

Vehicle production in plants installed in Brazil set a record in March, turning out 218,573 units, 17.5% more than the 185,982 produced in February. When compared with March, 2004, the increase amounted to 14.1%. So far this year, vehicle production is up 12.5%.

Exports rose 14.2% during the period, with 67,516 vehicles shipped abroad. In relation to March, 2004, the increase was 26.5%, and, for the first quarter, exports are up 37.5%.


The total number of domestic and imported vehicles licensed in March, 149,424 units, was 30% greater than in February. This volume was 5.5% greater than in March, 2004. During the first quarter there was an overall growth of 4.8%.


Domestic sales of agricultural machinery on the wholesale market amounted to 2,346 units, up 38.4%. In comparison with March, 2004, the volume is down 26.6%. It is also down, 27.8%, for the first quarter, compared with the same period last year.
