American Launches Second Daily Nonstop to Brazil

American Airlines continued the development of its international services at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport yesterday by announcing that it will introduce a second nonstop flight between DFW and São Paulo, Brazil, effective June 9.

American said it will operate the new flight five days a week with 211-seat Boeing 767-300 aircraft in the peak season and three days a week between Sept. 7 and Nov. 22.

The inaugural flight will come about one month before the opening of DFW’s new International Terminal D and will give American a significant international service expansion with which to showcase the new gateway facility.

“Sao Paulo is Brazil’s largest business center and one of the most important destinations in all of Latin America for travel and trade to North Texas,” said Dan Garton, American’s Executive Vice President of Marketing.

“Our ability to introduce this significant new service is made possible by the strength of the DFW hub and its broad range of connecting service from points across our route network.”

The DFW-São Paulo announcement comes less than two weeks after American revealed that growth by American and its regional affiliate, American Eagle, at DFW will surpass earlier projections and increase their combined service to a total of 839 departures a day at DFW by July 2005.  This will involve a total of 119 additional flights at DFW above what they offered last summer.

Including São Paulo, American and American Eagle serve a total of 31 international destinations from DFW.  A 32nd international point will be added in November when American begins nonstop service between DFW and Osaka, Japan.

American has been flying nonstop between DFW and São Paulo since April 1995.  With the growth and success of the DFW hub, American and American Eagle have grown their international service offering at DFW by 94 percent since the summer of 1995.
