Next comes Aécio Neves, of the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB), with 23% (from 22% in July); and Eduardo Campos, of the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB), with 9% (from a previous 8%).
The other eight presidential candidates each account for between 3% and less than 1% of voting intentions.
Commissioned by Globo TV network, the poll was conducted by the Brazilian Public Opinion and Statistics Institute (IBOPE), who heard 2,506 voters in 175 municipalities between Sunday (August 3) and Wednesday (August 6).
The IBOPE has also simulated runoff scenarios. In the event of a contention between Dilma Rousseff and Aécio Neves, Rousseff would have 42% of votes, and Neves would have 36%. In July, these figures were 41% and 33% respectively.
In a scenario where Rousseff would compete with Eduardo Campos, she would have 44% of votes, and Campos, 32%, compared to a previous 41% and 29% respectively.
IBOPE has also heard respondents’ opinions about Rousseff’s administration. Those who rated it as “excellent” or “good” in August amounted to 32% (as against 31% in July), whereas “neutral” ratings totaled 35% (up from 36% in July).
