The process, which had been under development since 2007, and included a visit of Libyan government representatives to the pharmaceutical company in August last year, was completed this month. Now Teuto is negotiating its first agreement with a pharmaceutical distributor in Libya.
“We have a representative in that country who is negotiating the first order to be delivered this semester,” explained the Export director at the organization, Rodrigo Macedo.
He said that the first modification required by the government of Libya was regarding packages, which needed to be translated into Arabic. “There was no technical modification in the formula of the medication.”
According to Macedo, once the laboratory has received certification from the Libyan government, it is going to sell all products in the Arab country. The sale being negotiated includes generics like anti-inflammatories, antihypertensives and vitamins, among others.
Teuto exports to countries in Latin America, Central America, Africa and also to Portugal. Libya should be the first North African country to enter the company’s list of international buyers.
Currently, exports represent around 2% of Teuto sales. Macedo explained that this low percentage is due to the size of the Brazilian pharmaceutical market. “It is the fifth one in the world,” he said.
The executive pointed out the laboratory’s intention of expanding the share to 5% by 2013. “A strategy to reach these 5% is the insertion of the countries in the Arab countries.”
In Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Standards and Quality Organization (SASO) certified Teuto to sell four of its cosmetics (against aging, moisturized towels, female personal hygiene soap and mouthwash). According to Macedo, after approval, Teuto has already closed a “large” order in that country.
The executive explained that the laboratory has recently established a partnership with a local distributor to chemists that, initially, will supply the whole of Saudi Arabia and, later, should cover all countries in the Gulf.
Teuto is also participating in a certification process promoted by the GCC Drug Registration Center (GCC-DR) for 23 of its medications.
