It was an all-time sales record in gasoline and aviation fuel sales in 2009, with 310,383 cubic meters sold for the Aviation Products Department of Petrobras Distribuidora (BR), the distribution arm of the Brazilian state-controlled oil and gas multinational Petrobras.
The result is higher than that of July, when the monthly average was 289,988 cubic meters, the highest ever recorded until then.
According to a press release issued by BR, the main contributing factors to the result were “the rising sales volume of airline WebJet, the beginning of US Airways operations at the Galeão airport; the heating up of the industry, with extra flights, due to the high season; and the increased sales volume of airline Azul Linhas Aéreas.”
The executive manager of BR, Francelino da Silva Paes, explained the importance of the result to the aviation area of BR, by means of the company’s press office.
The release informs that in early 2009, there was uncertainty due to the global crisis scenario, but the company ended the year with a sales volume 7.2% higher than recorded in 2008.
“We have conquered two very important airlines (Azul and WebJet) and attained a 60% market share,” according to the release.
