According to a press statement by the bank, the BB reached unprecedented participation in export contracts this month. The contracts totaled US$ 4.1 billion, equivalent to 34% of the sector, and expanded the leadership it has in the sector.
In import exchange, BB was responsible for US$ 2.8 billion in June, also presenting the best performance in 2009. With this result, the bank increased to 24.5% its participation in this market sector, in the first half of the year, against 23.9% in the same period in 2008.
Coffee Exports
Brazilian coffee exports in July reached a volume of 2,184,571 bags, resulting in revenues of US$ 301.1 million. This volume represents growth of 4.7% when compared to July last year, whereas revenues dropped 11.7% when compared to the same period in 2008.
In the accumulated result for the year, the volume exported was 17,060,131 bags, for accumulated revenues up to July of US$ 2.3 billion. The figures were disclosed by the Brazilian Coffee Exporter Council (CeCafé).
The CeCafé balance sheet, with regard to the quality of exported coffee, shows that in the total number of bags traded last month, the Arabica type answered to 84%, whereas Robusta was responsible for 6% and soluble coffee, for 10%. When considering the last twelve months, Brazil exported 31,516,425 bags, for revenues of US$ 4.6 billion.
From January to July, the main Brazilian coffee import markets were, according to the CeCafé, considering continents, Europe (with 9.5 million bags purchased), North America (3.7 million bags) and Asia (2.8 million bags).
With regard to the countries that are destination, also between January and July, the first four places were the United States (3.4 million bags bought), Germany (3.3 million bags), Italy (1.4 million bags) and Japan (1.3 million bags).
Santos port, in São Paulo, is still the leader in shipments, over 12.5 million bags (73.4% of the total). The second place went to Vitória, in Espírito Santo, with 2.5 million bags shipped (14.7%) and the third was Rio de Janeiro, with 1.5 million bags shipped (9.1%).
